February 10 — February 12
Arlington, Texas
Convention is over but we’ve only just begun ….
The 2006 Texas PTA Convention has ended. However, the enthusiasm, commitment and goals to improve the lives of our children continue. A big "thank you" to all the volunteers who helped planned the event, taught or facilitated the workshops, were greeters or ushers, or worked in the polls, registration or volunteer check-in. This event could not have been a success without “all hands on deck”! It was wonderful to see this hard work done with smiling faces and enthusiasm. We also would like to give a SPECIAL thank you to Susanne Hutchison for coordinating all the volunteers.
We had many who participated and voiced their views on Legislative positions and resolutions and bylaw amendments. The participation in deciding the structure and goals of our association at the general meeting helps make our association strong. If you have not participated or attended these meetings, please plan to do so next time. Your voice counts.
The 2004-2006 state leaders are now busy passing on the reigns of their position or planning their next year. Please take this opportunity to thank those who have served on the state board for their hard work during the past few years. Here is a link to get their e-mail addresses.
We had several contested races for the positions on the state board. And although we had to select only one candidate for each position, we thank those who were ready to dedicate their time, energies and skills to benefit this association. Here is the roster of your new Texas PTA Board of Directors.
Along with our new board comes yet another new face. We have a new Executive Director at the state office who will begin on February 27. Kyle Ward joined us at Convention and was able to meet many of you face-to-face and see the PTA in motion … training, planning and having fun.
Even though we had a long list of important business to attend to, we still made time to laugh, be entertained and honor our special guests. A big "thanks" to:
- our Keynote Speaker Riney Jordan whose touching and inspirational speech was a big hit;
- the Martin High School, the Mary Moore Elementary and the Seguin High School Jazz Band for their musical presentations;
- Mayor Robert Cluck and Arlington Superintendent Dr. Mac Bernd for their warm welcome;
- the Circle T Girl Scout Brownie Troop #2006 for the Presentation of Colors and Pledge of Allegiance; and
- National PTA Representative Chuck Saylors for his entertaining leadership.
If you missed the Convention, we hope to see you at the next Convention or at the Summer Leadership Seminar on July 21-23, 2006, held at the Austin Convention Center in Austin, Texas.
