It is almost time to welcome our PTA family to Houston!  Texas PTA knows our vision that every child's potential is a reality can be achieved through strong volunteer support, effective advocacy and passionate family engagement!  Join us February 24-26 for a weekend filled with ideas to increase involvement on your campus, all while strengthening your PTA and celebrating the amazing work of our dedicated volunteers!

Keynote Speakers

Ed Smart Photo

Ed Smart is the father of Elizabeth Smart, who was abducted on June 5th , 2002, and miraculously rescued nine months later. Through the loss and return of his daughter, he passionately sought the passage of the “Amber Alert,” for the protection and rescue of other children. For the benefit of all children, he lobbied Congress and the Senate tirelessly to prevent further abductions and to rescue missing children.  Ed has been involved in numerous conferences designed to further the awareness and cooperation in the area of child protection within law enforcement, media, and the public. Ed Smart’s committment to the importance of family and the protection of our children has brought a heightened awareness to the need of every child to feel safe and secure.

Ed Smart is the owner of a real estate and mortgage company based in Salt Lake City. He graduated from George Washington University with a BBA in Finance and an MBA with an emphasis in Urban Planning. He and his wife Lois reside in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Betsy Landers Photo

Betsy Landers was installed as the National PTA® President at the June 2011 National PTA Convention and Exhibition in Orlando, Florida. She previously served a two-year term as National PTA President-elect (2009–2011) and Secretary-Treasurer (2007–2009). Her role in National PTA also included chairing the National PTA Advisory Board, the National Council of States, the Strategic Plan Committee, the Resource Development Committee, and the Finance Committee. Landers has been actively involved in negotiating new partnerships and alliances for the association to increase PTA’s role in serving diverse families, as well as improve the financial strength of the association.

Landers and her husband Ben G. Landers have three children—Benton, Nicholas, and Mary Frances. They make their home in Germantown, Tennessee.

State Rep Donna Howard

Donna Howard is a recognized expert on public education and was elected to the Eanes ISD board in West Austin, where she served from 1996 to 1999 and was certified as a Master School Trustee by the Texas Association of School Boards. She co-founded the parent organization Advocates for Eanes Schools and helped form the Texas Education Crisis Coalition, a grassroots group of parents, business owners, and community leaders working together to tackle the public school finance issue.  Howard serves on the House Higher Education Committee and the House Technology Committee; additionally, she serves as vice chair of the House Administration Committee. The Representative has also previously served as vice chair of the House Culture, Recreation, and Tourism Committee.

Married to Austin attorney Derek Howard, Representative Howard is the mother of three adult children and is active in her neighborhood and church communities.

  • Founders' Day Dinner
    Join us on Friday evening for a statewide celebration of PTA!  Ed Smart will be our special guest as we look back on another outstanding year for Texas PTA and honor our dedicated volunteers.  Tickets should be purchased at the time of registration.  Onsite availability will be limited.
  • Heroes Breakfast
    All attendees are invited to attend this free event on Sunday morning.  We will recognize all of our Local and Council PTAs who have maintained a strong presence on their campus by sustaining or growing their membership.  The heart of PTA is our members, and our heroes are leading the way!

    The above convention rules will be presented to the delegates for adoption at the first general meeting on Saturday, February 25.
  • Adoption of Restated Certificate of Formation pdf icon
    The Texas PTA Board of Directors desires to bring its Restated Articles of Incorporation with Amendments up-to-date to with the current terminology of the Texas Nonprofit Corporation Act, the registered agent for service of process, and Board members.  It does not, in any way, change Texas PTA's purpose, the way in which it conducts business or members' rights from the former Restated Articles of Incorporation with Amendments filed in March 1966.
  • New Beginnings: Texas PTA Bylaws Revision
    A mission-driven leadership model and bylaws revision will be presented to delegates attending the 2012 Family Engagement Conference and Annual Convention. The Texas PTA Board of Directors has developed a proposal with innovative ways to focus on member responsiveness, leadership development and strategic governance.  If approved, the revision will not become effective until convention 2014.

  • Proposed Amendments to the Current Texas PTA Bylaws word icon
    In addition to the bylaws revision, the Texas PTA Board of Directors has recommended amendments to the current bylaws.  These proposed changes would take effect immediately upon the close of convention.

  • Legislative Positions and Resolutions word icon
    Texas PTA will present legislative positions and resolutions for consideration by the delegates.  These legislative tools will help guide Texas PTA's advocacy efforts during the next legislative session and beyond.

  • 2012-2014 Texas PTA Officer Elections
    At the close of the 103rd Annual Convention, a newly-elected board of directors will begin their term in guiding Texas PTA into the future.  Delegates are encouraged to review the proposed slate of candidates, as well as opportunities to serve on state-level committees.

Did your PTA "Bundle Up" at Summer Leadership Seminar?
We had many PTAs who pre-registered to send up to (4) delegates to this year's convention.  Please review the Bundle Up! roster to see if your PTA took advantage of this special promtional offer.  If your PTA is on the Bundle Up! roster, contact your PTA president prior to completing your registation.  There are no refunds of convention registration fees.

Is your PTA a member of the Class of 2011?
Any Local PTA chartered between January 1 - December 31, 2011 is entitled to receive two complimentary registrations to the 2012 Family Engagement Conference and 103rd Annual Convention.  To confirm your PTA's inclusion in the Class of 2011, please review the current roster of newly-chartered PTAs.

How do I submit my registration?
Only attendees or delegates paying the standard registration fees via credit card should use the online form.  Bundle Up and Class of 2011 particpants, along with those PTAs paying by check, should complete the paper registration form and send to the Texas PTA State Office.  Please note tickets to the Founders' Day Dinner are not included with any promotional offers.
