An Afternoon with Miss Sue Mitchell
Sue Mitchell, Portrayed by Kathy Bates as ‘Miss Sue’ in the Oscar nominated movie The Blind Side, will join us at the Texas PTA Annual Convention on Friday, July 19 at 2:30 PM to remind us all of the important work we do as parents, teachers, and child advocates. Otha Thornton, National PTA 2013-2015 President
Otha Thornton, 2013-2015 National PTA President, brings greetings from National PTA and will join us during the Annual Convention on Friday, July 19 at 2:30 PM. Mr. Thornton is a retired United States Army Lieutenant Colonel and his last two assignments were with the White House Communications Agency and United States Forces-Iraq in Baghdad. Previously, Thornton served on National PTA's Board of Directors, Legislative Committee, Membership Committee, and Executive Search Committee. During his time with Georgia PTA, Otha served on the Board of Directors as legislative chair and as an Advisory Group member for Georgia's Partnership for Excellence in Education.
Daryl Johnston, Former Dallas Cowboy
The Legacy Brunch will feature our invited guest, Daryl Johnston. Daryl, a former Dallas Cowboy, is now a successful sportscaster for FOX Sports. A dedicated philanthropist, father, and child advocate, Daryl will share his passion for literacy, child welfare, and engaged fatherhood during this inspiring brunch! Also, our 2012-13 Reflections Outstanding Interpretation Award Recipients will perform and present their winning artwork! Tickets to this event must be purchased prior to arrival at SLS.

Be Social! is open to all attendees. Dinner is available to ticket and backstage pass holders only. Save time and money by avoiding dinner traffic outside the hotel! The exhibits, market, and SMARTshop will be buzzing with activity, so we hope to see you there!

Join us on Sunday for pure inspiration during our Legacy Brunch and show your support for Texas Children! The Legacy Brunch will feature performances by the 2012-2013 Reflections Outstanding Interpretation Recipients. Daryl Johnston, our invited guest, may best known as a Dallas Cowboys all star, but his true legacy is his dedication to community and children. This is an event you won't want to miss! Get a head start on this weekend full of training! Several BASICS and other workshops will be offered on Friday, July 19, 11:45 AM - 1:15 PM. This session includes lunch, a complimentary corresponding resource guide, and VIP conference check-in! Save time, make your lunch plans, and Be Early!

This new course will be offered several times during the conference. While graduates of the previous LOT course are not required to attend, all PTA Board members are encouraged to attend this course. Be ahead of the curve and complete this course during the summer! To receive credit, attendee must be present for the entire course. Refunds for this class are not available, no exceptions.
