2009-2010 Membership Theme: Get Back To Basics!
Texas PTA announces the 2009-2010 membership theme: “Get Back to Basics!” This theme highlights the importance of families’ involvement in their children’s lives and invites them to join PTA as a basis for interaction between school and home. The theme also incorporates “We Want You” and “Join PTA” as a call to action to join PTA.
Your PTA can interpret and expand upon the theme in a creative manner, using camouflage, dog tags, basic training (boot camp) or education basics (like ABC, 123), or the “basic” family. We have created several graphics and visuals to assist you in exploring this concept. Graphics can be downloaded from the graphics below and posters will be on sale at Summer Leadership Seminar. We encourage you to attend the Membership Theme workshop at Summer Leadership Seminar to brainstorm ways to get your PTA excited about this theme and to recruit members and volunteers.
Texas PTA is very aware of current economic challenges and understands that people are making tough decisions on where to spend their money and time. PTA can fulfill a basic need to connect school, children and family.
You may want to consult the membership chairman section of the Texas PTA Handbook (check with your president for a copy or view it online) and the Texas PTA Membership Chairman’s Guide. The Guide is available to download (free) under the “Resources” tab on the Member’s Only section of the Texas PTA Web site, or you can purchase a hard copy online or in the Texas PTA Market at Summer Leadership Seminar.

Please remember that membership recruitment is a year-round effort. Invite your community and business leaders, as well as your administration, to be a part of your association. Spend a few minutes planning your campaign to inspire interest throughout the year. Remember to reach out to families who are new to your area and encourage them to join PTA and take an active role in their child’s education.
