BASICS Training

Texas PTA offers the BASICS series of resources to assist PTA Leaders in fulfilling their board duties. Visit Local PTA Leaders to access recorded webinars for each of the BASICS courses.

FOUNDATIONS Leader Orientation

FOUNDATIONS Leader Orientation (FLO) is a two-part introductory course for new PTA Leaders.  All board members are required to complete FLO only once in their PTA service, and there is a $10 fee to access the course material.

Part l: Welcome to PTA

Part l: Welcome to PTA will only be offered online through Texas PTA. The online system is currently unavailable as we update our training platform.  We are testing the new content and are working to go live as soon as possible.  We will email all Local PTA Leaders who are on file when the course if available.  While we normally recommend completing Part l prior to attending Part ll, we understand that may not be possible in this instance.  We encourage PTA Leaders to take advantage of training whenever offered and complete Part l when it's available.

We understand that the PTA bylaws template requires course completion by October 15.  This requirement will be extended to November 30 for all impacted board members and any associated recognition.

If you created a profile prior to Friday, August 25, 2017, your profile is still active to access your materials and completion certificate.

PART ll: Serving on a Local Board

Part ll: Serving on a Local Board is offered as an in-person training to PTA Leaders by Council PTAs and/or Texas PTA Field Service Representatives (FSR).  PTA Leaders should contact their Council PTA or FSR for training dates and availability.

Texas PTA asks that Part l be completed prior to attending Part ll, and that PTA Leaders bring a copy of the Part l completion certificate to the training.

While the bylaws state new board members must complete FLO (Parts l and ll) no later than October 15, it's important that all PTA Leaders complete the training during their first year of service, regardless of the date.  If you have any questions, please contact the Texas PTA Programs Team
