Texas PTA advocacy is member-driven: our resolutions define our values, our legislative positions define our standing policy views, and our legislative priorities define our focus for each legislative session.

What is a Resolution?

Resolutions are formal statements of belief adopted by the membership that express Texas PTA’s values and concerns regarding issues affecting children, families, schools, and communities. They establish the philosophical foundation for advocacy and may guide Positions, Legislative Priorities, and advocacy action. Resolutions are generally broad, values-based, and enduring. What is a Legislative Position?

Positions are statements of support or opposition on specific issues, policies, legislation, or practices, adopted by the Board. They guide advocacy and public policy action and allow Texas PTA to respond to legislation, regulations, and emerging issues. Positions are generally more specific and action-oriented than Resolutions. They shall align with Texas PTA’s organizational purposes and shall not conflict with adopted Resolutions, but may address issues not covered by a Resolution. They remain in effect until rescinded. What is a Priority?

Priorities are issues adopted by the Board and identify the issues on which Texas PTA will concentrate its advocacy efforts and resources. Priorities guide the association’s focus but do not establish its policy positions. They remain in effect until the Board approves Priorities for the next legislative cycle or rescinds them.
